Last weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Ottawa Riverkeeper and Swim Ottawa’s Inaugural 4K Inter-provincial Swim! The event was fantastic, with over 30 people signed up to swim 4-kilometers across the Ottawa River! The swimmers were accompanied by several small watercraft; paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, four volunteer motor boats, AND the Ottawa Police and the Ottawa Fire rescue teams!
Despite the freezing cold (a high of 16 degrees), a wind and some not so pleasant waves, the swimmers pushed through and almost all of them completed the swim in under 2 hours! Swimmers were provided warm soup and hot chocolate at the finish line, as well as prizes and lots of cheering and applause!
I had the lucky vantage point of being in one of the motor boats, provided by the Lac Deschenes Sailing Club, also the finish point. Getting nice and close to the swimmers enabled me to get a few great close up and action shots. View them below!
